A short ceremony was held Thursday in the Wolf Creek Junction development to recognize the start of work on a new Basehor grocery store, Wolf Creek Marketplace, which is in the early stages of construction behind the group. Pictured are, from left, Bill Huninghake with Affiliated Foods Midwest, Bill Gillmor of Citywide Development, Basehor City Administrator Carl Slaugh, Dennis Monahan of First National Bank of Olathe, Basehor Mayor Chris Garcia, grocery store owner and developer John Bell, grocery store owner and developer Ed McIntosh, grocery store owner Kevin Barclay and Rich York of Affiliated Foods Midwest. The grocery store is expected to open in early summer 2009 if everything remains on schedule.

Bill Peak, Tonganoxie, stands near his collection of political buttons in his Tonganoxie home. Peak collects political memorabilia and has seen several presidential candidates give speeches through the years. He and his wife also travel to homes and gravesites of former presidents.

Thursday's storms knocked a sign welcoming visitors to Linwood to the ground. Residents cleaned up damage to the southern Leavenworth County community after a tornado was reported in the area.
